Mailbox Mondays...too enticing to resist!

Thank you to Cathy of Kittling Books for turning me onto Mailbox Mondays, and to Marcia of The Printed Page for hosting the meme.

Into my house this week came Patricia Cornwell's Book of the Dead. I can already say I am not impressed and will most likely send it right back out the door. Also new to my home is what I hope will become a valuable jumping off point: The Complete Encyclopedia of Signs and Symbols by Mark O'Connell and Raje Airey. Definitely not a cover-to-cover read, but research material to keep at my desk.

Those are all the newbies, but I also started and finished some great, relatively ones. I read Elizabeth Spann Craig's Pretty Is As Pretty Does in two days. Loved Myrtle and Bradley, hoping for more Elaine. Finally finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson. Slow start and drawn out close, but well-plotted. I'll definitely read the next two.

Good reading week - and the stack on my nightstand isn't getting any shorter!

  1. I don't often get books, but got three this week. What I need to do is allot more time for reading. I have a plan for that, but must find time to implement the plan.

  2. Plans are well and good, but they don't necessarily create more time. At least that is my experience.
Of course, I can't complain. I am spending the day blogging, writing, with the sun shining through the gorgeous autumn leaves and I just turned on Rocky Horror Pictur Show! How ridiculously hedonistic is that! I suppose we all get one day of sick : )
And Patricia Cornwell isn't calling...But I did just begin Tasha Alexander's 'And Only to Deceive.' Fantastically paced!

  4. Thank you and definitely check it out. Work through those third and fourth chapters and you won't regret it.

  5. I'm finally finishing up that stack of nooks. By the end of the month after Nanowrimo is over I can stock up on about another 8-10 books.

  6. I have 3 new books waiting for me... but it's NaNo month and it's just not going to happen right now!

  7. Welcome to the Mailbox, and thanks for the mention! I read Dragon Tattoo and fell in love with Lizbeth Salander. Good news and bad news: the good news is that Larsson's books get better and better; the sad news is that 3 is all we'll get.

  8. Cathy - On Larsson, I read there is a partial fourth, and ideas for five and six - so maybe someone will pick up the notes and take them where he intended? Someone close enough to him to do them justice?

Jemi - I have decided I am not a NaNO-er. Congrats to you for sticking it out! And way to go for staying away from the juicy, enticing books calling your name. I know they are missing you. They sit lonely on your nightstand, gathering dust as your type away at their replacement. But don't feel guilty.

Stephen - What have you read recently? What are you planning to read next?
